Does Facebook make you envious?
(Level: Upper-Intermediate //   B2  //   *** )

(see further: American English vs. British English)

If Facebook makes its users feel connected or happy, it turns out it can also make them envious and pretty miserable, according to a recent study.

You are now going to watch a CNN report focusing on the issue.

Vocabulary
envy: jealousy
rampant:widespread  (qui sévit)
to trigger: to make something happen very quickly (déclencher)
short of: less  (moins)
to do a gut check: to do a test of courage or character (faire le point  - en vue de se remettre en question)
yicky: +/- disgusted
to set...off: to make... suddenly angry   (irriter / faire mettre en colère)
vacation (US) = holiday (UK)
to overinflate: to exaggerate   (gonfler / exagérer )

Answer the following questions - you can do so in French:

1. What has a recent study highlighted as far as Facebook users are concerned?
2. What is supposed to trigger the negative feelings? Give examples.
3. What should the Facebook users do so as to get rid of those bad feelings?

Additional question:
4. Don't you think this study should be taken with a pinch of salt (*)?
(*) This study should be taken with a pinch of salt: il faudrait aborder cette étude avec une certaine prudence

You can now check your answers:
1.
3.
a) Supprimer son compte Facebook (pas toujours possible);
