The State Opening of Parliament is a traditional and elaborate ceremony and a major annual event which marks the beginning of a new parliamentary year at the Palace of Westminster.
But how
does such an eventful day really unfold?

The Yeomen of the Guard and the cellars of the Houses of parliament:
La Garde de la Reine fouille les souterrains de Westminster pour (symboliquement) empêcher toute tentative moderne de la Conspiration des Poudres (*) qui prévoyait de faire sauter le Parlement durant la cérémonie d'ouverture du 5 novembre 1605.

These important objects:
la Couronne impériale d'apparat (Imperial State Crown) = couronne portée par la Reine à l'occasion de l'ouverture solennelle de la session du parlement.
La couronne + le chapeau de maintenance + l'épée d'apparat = objets d'apparat transportés en carrosse avant le départ de la Reine de Buckingham Palace vers Westminster.
The Royal Procession:
La Reine quitte en carrosse Buckingham Palace et se rend à Westminster pour être reçue à la Chambre des Lords.
(The Gentleman Usher of) the Black Rod / (The Usher of) the Black Rod:
Le Gentilhomme Huissier de la Verge noire est le représentant officiel de la Reine lors de la cérémonie de l'ouverture solennelle de la session du parlement. Dès que la Reine s'est installée dans la Chambre des Lords, celle-ci l'envoie à la Chambre des Communes afin de demander aux députés de venir assister au discours royal.
Lorsqu'il arrive à hauteur de la Chambre des Communes, on lui claque la porte au nez pour lui signifier l'indépendance des députés vis-à-vis du pouvoir royal dont il est le représentant à ce moment. Il frappe alors trois coups à la porte à l'aide de sa canne noire et on le laisse entrer dans la salle. Il invite alors le président de l'assemblée et les députés à bien vouloir le suivre jusque dans la Chambre des Lords pour assister au discours. (*)
