A school empty of pupils

From two-way radios to modern systems including video conferencing, Australia has a big history of providing education for thousands of schoolchildren living in remote areas across the country. 

Attending a lesson using a two-way radio - a thing of the past!

You are going to watch a BBC programme focusing on the Jackson family who live too far away from any city or town for their children to attend school and on the Brisbane School (of Distance Education) which offers lessons to geographically isolated children like the Jacksons.  

The teachers are not in class but in a studio...

Before watching:



The following words could be useful:

C'est une école sans élèves, du moins dans ses locaux (à l'exception de sessions trimestrielles qui accueillent des groupes d'élèves qui se réunissent pour travailler ensemble); école où se retrouvent juste des adultes, des professeurs qui enseignent à distance à partir d'un studio...
C'est aussi un établissement qui offre plus d'options de cours que n'importe quelle école locale "normale"...

Avantages:

• Possibilité de suivre des cours alors qu'ils habitent dans une zone très reculée (une heure et demi de route avant d'atteindre la ville la plus proche)
• Programme interactif
• C'est un style de vie en soi / Pour certains, c'est la meilleure solution qui soit; de toute façon, impossible de faire autrement - à défaut, les enfants ne seraient pas éduqués... 
• Maîtrise de l'outil informatique (+ de l'internet)

Inconvénients:

• Mauvaise connexion internet (par satellite) / connexion à débit lent  - problème lors de la session de cours interactive! 
• Si on a des ami(e)s en ville, on est loin d'eux!
