Paris Metro incident

Paul Nolan, a British expatriate living in Paris, filmed with his mobile phone a group of Chelsea football fans who chanted racist slogans after preventing a black man from boarding a Metro train.

Paul Nolan a dit avoir été choqué quand il a vu les supporteurs de Chelsea repousser violemment à plusieurs reprises ce passager noir qui voulait monter dans la même rame qu'eux et aussi quand ils se sont mis à chanter leur fierté d'être racistes... 


Il s'est aussi senti menacé: à cause des cris générés par ces supporteurs anglais; à cause de leur comportement agressif et aussi parce qu'il était en train de filmer l'incident raciste - il devait rester prudent et ne pas être vu. 
Il a préféré attendre la rame suivante pour rentrer chez lui!

(*) Queen Victoria is so far the British monarch who had the longest reign ever: 63 years and 216 days. If Queen Elizabeth II is still reigning on 10th September 2015, she will surpass her great-great-grandmother.

Numerous daredevils have always made attempts to ride down the Niagara Falls (*) but Will Gadd (**) is the first person ever to have climbed up them.

Will Gadd vient de réaliser un exploit inédit: il est parvenu à escalader les chutes du Niagara partiellement gelées - à trois reprises (une heure pour chaque escalade) - équipé seulement de crampons et de deux piolets.

Entreprise difficile et risquée: la cascade n'est que partiellement gelée (la partie externe, visible). Dès lors, procéder à son ascension comporte des risques car la couche de glace susceptible d'accueillir les piolets est irrégulière et de gros blocs de glace peuvent céder à tout moment. L'alpiniste peut aussi recevoir des éclats de glace au visage, sans oublier les projections d'eau glacée...

- Il est nécessaire de retenir sa respiration le plus longtemps possible (plongée en apnée -  dans son cas: 8 minutes) pour atteindre des profondeurs maximales; son record étant de 125 mètres.

- Inutile de résister aux courants trop forts; en revanche, il faut juste se laisser aller, se laisser porter par eux et profiter du calme ambiant, un peu comme dans un rêve.

Le chauffard a emprunté une large portion de l'autoroute M25 en sens inverse, sur une distance de 9 miles (+/- 15 km) en circulant sur la bande d'arrêt d'urgence et en esquivant bon nombre de véhicules  / (+ Les autres usagers ont aussi dû l'esquiver!) 
Sa course s'est terminée lorsqu'il a percuté un véhicule sur une bretelle d'accès, blessant la conductrice. 


Conséquences:
-Accident et lésions corporelles (la conductrice de la voiture percutée souffre de lésions cervicales).
-Incarcération du chauffard pour une période de 14 mois.
-Déchéance du droit de conduire.
-Obligation de passer des épreuves de conduite approfondies avant d'être autorisé à reprendre le volant.

You are going to read a BBC article focusing on the issue of migrants trying to make it to the UK from Calais. 

Thousands of people who had to flee because of the war raging in their homeland or because their lives were endangered by the regimes in their respective countries are now so desperate that they are putting their lives at risk on a daily basis to try and get to the UK.

  • Proche de la vie animale: on ne pense qu'à manger dès le matin et puis à dormir. On ne pense qu'aux besoins basiques: se laver; se raser; se faire couper les cheveux... et pourtant, pas d'hygiène car aucune infrastructure... (Mustafa, statisticien originaire de Syrie va sur la plage avec son fils de 10 ans... pour se laver, car pas de douches dans leur camp). Quant à la nourriture, distribution le soir sur un parking de Calais par une association caritative humanitaire du seul repas de la journée pour beaucoup d'entre eux... 
  • Nombre accru de jour en jour de réfugiés; de plus en plus difficile pour chacun... / Vie dans des camps sales, dans la rue, dans des squats...
  • Violence accrue (entre réfugiés notamment, bagarres...) en raison du nombre de plus en plus élevé de candidats à l'exil et présence plus massive des forces de l'ordre (lors de la distribution du seul repas de la journée p.ex.).
  • Pas de dignité ou très peu; la plupart du temps, ils n'ont plus d'argent du tout car leur maigre avoir a déjà été utilisé pour payer les passeurs qui les ont fait venir jusqu'en Europe... 
  • Volonté désespérée de passer en Grande-Bretagne; risques accrus de mort ou de blessures graves pour y parvenir en essayant de se cacher dans ou en-dessous des camions en partance pour l'Angleterre...
  • Conflits intensifiés avec la population locale; des bandes de réfugiés font peur aux habitants locaux; vols constatés dans les voitures ou habitations; des groupements d'extrême-droite se forment... 
  • Mesures mises en place par les autorités françaises et anglaises (= négligence délibérée) pour décourager les candidats à l'exil vers le Royaume-Uni de venir tenter leur "chance" à Calais.

  • Installation de barrières métalliques hautes de 6 mètres, chapeautées par des rouleaux de fils de fer barbelés à lames; patrouilles de gardes avec chiens pisteurs, présence de la police anti-émeute
  • suppression des centres d'accueil et de toutes les facilités d'hébergement (en insistant sur les privations, les conditions primitives , l'absence de soins de santé auxquelles les réfugiés seront confrontés... = négligence délibérée) dans l'espoir vain que ces conditions misérables "d'accueil" aient un impact ou un retentissement jusque dans les zones ravagées par les guerres d'où sont originaires les migrants déjà sur place, mais surtout les réfugiés potentiels du futur.
